The weekend approaches again! Fridays are great, as they give us a few games to wet our appetite for the full fixture lists that Saturday and Sunday bring. We welcome back the Bundesliga and Dutch Eredivise this weekend, and we’ll have tips from both…
PSV v FC Zwolle (7pm)
At odds of 1.17 PSVcome in to this game as huge favourites, and rightly so. They have been formidable this season, averaging 10 goals every 3 games (3.33/game). They have been strong defensively too, conceding just 1 per game on average. This is their first competitive fixture after the winter break, and being joint top gives them the chance to go 3 points clear and put the pressure on Twente who play tomorrow. Zwolle have done well on the road and have lost once in their last 6, and scored in 8 of their last 9 away from home. I feel that despite the high chance of a home win, there really isn’t any value in backing PSV; the odds are too short. Given that PSV have just one clean sheet in their last 7 league games, I think both teams to score is reasonably likely. Bearing this in mind, backing the home side on the Asian Handicap becomes too risky (you’d have to go to -2.5 just to get above the 2.00 mark). Instead, goals is where the value is. There are various routes here, such as 3+ home goals (1.60 – Coral), but the regular Under/Over market is best here.
Espanyol v Mallorca (8pm)
Espanyol, after a woeful start to their 2012/13 campaign have turned things around of late, and last weekend’s victory actually pulled them out of the relegation zone. They come in to this fixture with one defeat in 6 La Liga games (away at Barca), and have even managed a point at Real Madrid. They have also managed 3 clean sheets in their last 6 games (2 of their last 2 at home), so despite first choice GK Cristian Alvarez still missing, 2nd choice Casilla has more than held his own. With no-one prolific in their team at the minute, goals had been an issue, but with the midfield chipping in too – and 5 goals in their last 3 at home, they should notch a couple this evening. Mallorca are on absolute freefall at present and they’ve picked up just 6 points from their last 42. They managed a shock win at Betis just before Christmas, which is their only win on the road this season. The away side struggle to keep the ball and this will play into the home side’s hands. Dominant performance from the home side expected here.
