Here are my bets for Sundays Brazilian state football games, I have spread these bets across two state championships stretching the entire country. Some of the games I have gone against the bigger sides for the value that is shown in opposing them. All the reasons for opposing these big clubs will be stated below

Botafogo X Duque de Caxias (9:30pm)

Botafogo go into their opening state championship with a bit of doubt creeping into the camp about financial difficulties around the club. Clarence Seedorf will likely be rested in the opening game as Botafogo look to save him for what they consider more important competitions. Botafogo also lost Elkeson to Chinese super power Guangzhou without bringing in a replacement, Doria will be missing for Botafogo for the next few weeks whilst he is competing for the Brazil under 20 squad. With all the doubt surrounding Botafogo I think this could be a perfect opportunity for De Caxias to pull off a surprise result. The Serie C side will fancy their chances against a weakened Botafogo side and I think they have a great chance of getting a result, but for insurance purposes I’ll be taking the Serie C side on the Asian handicap.

Palmeiras X Bragantino (7pm)

Palmeiras will be extremely eager to show their fans something different after an awful season which saw the Sao Paulo based club relegation to the second division of national football. Pal will also face Bragantino in the national league so I’m sure they’ll want to get one over on their future opponents, this is a huge season for pal and by hanging onto star forward Hernan Barcos after amid interest from other South American clubs including Argentine giants Boca Juniors.  Bragantino are a defensively poor side yet I’m sure their manager will come and try to sit back in the hope of grabbing a draw, I doubt they’ll be able to do this so I’ll be back Palmeiras to make a winning start to their campaign.

Paulista X Corinthians (7pm)

Corinthians will play their first game since officially becoming the best team in the world and I think they could be in for a bit of a shock. Corinthians never take the Paulista championship seriously and they often try different players and formations. Corinthians have spent more than any other club in the world (apart from PSG) last year and the majority of that was spent on their new superstar Alexandre Pato from AC Milan. Although I don’t expect Pato to play much during the state championships while he gets his physical and mental  fitness right for when he is needed. Corinthians will try a new formation here and the team will be made up of a lot of youngsters with star players Pato and Paulinho being rested whilst Argentine winger Juan Martinez has been sold to Boca Juniors. Paulista will prove a tough task for Corinthians and I see no reason they can’t get a positive result from the world champions.

Botafogo SP X Oeste (9:30pm)

Oeste are my team to watch this season, they’re poor at the back and to make up for it they flood players forward in a vast amount of numbers occasionally playing with up to 5 strikers on the pitch. In a very poor standard of Serie C Oeste still managed to concede over 1 goal per game on average whilst going on their way to win the divisional title. Botafogo SP are a poor club who’ve never won anything in their history apart from the third division state championship, they’ll be relegated this season without doubt especially looking at their playing squad. For me this game has goals in it and I’m confident that both teams will score but the odds were awful on that market so I’ve gone for the over 2.5 goal market.
