After last night brought yet another successive outcome, we are now on an underdog hot streak. All 10 tips where I’ve backed an underdog on the + points have landed. Tonight, however, we’ll be backing a small home favourite who plays against one of the underdogs we’ve won on several times in the past week.
Toronto Raptors @ Orlando Magic (12.00am)
Last night the Raptors played a grueling four quarters against the Heat and finished tied 109-109 in regulation time, but got blown away and ended up losing by 7 points in the overtime period. It was a dissapointing loss for this Raptors side that led for a lot of the night, and I think both the physical and mental toll of it will show tonight. Orlando are well rested and didn’t play last night, and prior to their layoff they’ve lost four in a row and they’ll be looking to bounce back. They’ll be looking to do so by gaining revenge over the Raptors side that has already beaten then three times this season. On the face of it we must all think the Raptors are a pretty decent side? They constantly cover the spreads we take and win us some good money, but it’s important to not most of these spreads are 10+ points and more and they have a habit of hanging with big sides who go out and play with a lack of motivation against the lowly Raptors. Tonight they face a Magic side who are only a small -3 point favorite, and they have the ability to show the Raptors up for what they are in this spot – just a poor road team with a 4-18 record outside of Toronto. The Magic have bounced back after losing runs and big losses pretty well this year. They’ve covered 6 of the 8 point spreads set by bookmakers over the course of the season when they’re coming off of a big loss. Having lost by 15 to Detroit last time out, we have that situation here. it’s also important to note that the Magic would definitely be a much, much bigger home favorite against this poor road team if not for their own current run of four losses. They’re not a bad side however, and I think the physical and mental toll that last night took on Toronto will show its self in the second half, most likely late on. And if at any point the Raptors start to blow out the Magic? No team in the NBA has given up more double digit leads to go on and lose than the Raptors. They’ve also lead by 20 on several occassions and still lost comfortably, so there’s always a chance against this side with a small spread like -3.
