Spanish Football Tips – 1/2/13Comments Off

My first tip in the Premium Section! #teamterry members only, so I’m hoping to get off to continue my good start after some solid profit from my free tips last weekend.

Valladolid v Athletic Bilbao

For me, Real Valladolid have been one of the biggest surprises of the season. Scraping promotion through the playoff and subsequently having only 6 weeks rest before the start of the season put them as big favourites for relegation. However, their attractive blend of attacking football has rightfully raised eyebrows and seen them propelled up the table. Most of their success has been down to star man Patrick Ebert (who is absent through injury), their average goals scored per game dropping to below 1. Athletic have been through turmoil this season but have also looked mightily impressive of late, having grabbed a deserved point away to high flying Betis and tearing even higher flying Atletico to shreds last week. Although Valladolid have a public perception of being very offensive, they actually have the fewest shots per game at home (even lower than Osasuna!), also with very low corner rates. Although these stats don’t paint the whole picture, they provide a useful indicator. Indeed, Bilbao have been creating scoring chances a-plenty and currently average the same amount of shots a game as Barcelona.  The positive handicap on offer provides solid cover against the not so unlikely draw and is generally a bet I really like the look of this weekend.
