Saturday Football Tips – 02/02/13Comments Off

After the one tip yesterday, we’re now in to the weekend and I for one have found some stand out bets that should yield a decent profit over the course of the weekend.

Schalke v Greuther Furth (2:30pm)

Schalke have been through a bit recently, creative playmaker Lewis Holtby has made his way to the Premier League. He will certainly be missed over the course of the season, but today’s fixture gives them little cause for concern. They host rock bottom Greuther Furth who have found the jump from the 2nd tier very difficult. With no wins since their 1-0 win at Mainz in Game Week 2, you could be forgiven fro completely writing them off as they’re already 12 points from guaranteed safety. Having scored just once in their last 7 games, and despite Schalke leaking 4 in their last home game, I’d expect a home clean sheet here today. Add this to the fact that Schalke average 2 goals per game at home and have won every home game against a bottom half side and you can see where I’m going. They’ve dropped points at home to Bayern, Frankfurt, Freiburg and Monchengladbach, but against the bottom half sides, they have played 6 won 6 (scoring 17, conceding 6). I expect a convincing home win here. 3-0 prediction

Hoffenheim v Freiburg (2:30pm)

Freiburg travel to strugglers Hoffenheim in another 2:30 kick off. The home side have just two points from their last 27 available and boast the worst defence in the league. Their 0-0 draw at home to Monchengladbach broke their home run of 4 straight defeats and was their second clean sheet of the season.  Freiburg have been far more impressive and are worthy of their 8th place at present. With 2 defeats in their last 13 league games (Munich and Dortmund) they are arguably one of the form sides in the league. They actually boast the 2ns best defence in the league behind the formidable Bayern.  This was shown in their last outing when they hosted Leverkusen and managed a 0-0 draw. With several players capable of goals, I think Max Kruse will play an important role today and wouldn’t be surprised if he scored. There is such great value in this game it couldn’t be ignored. A weak defence plays a strong defence. Freiburg average 5 more shots per game than their hosts, and almost 3 more shots on target. They contain the threat and are most likely to take all three points. 1-2 prediction

Wigan v Southampton (3pm)

A new manager and 2 tough games against Everton and Man United will potentially put a few people off supporting the away side as they travel to Wigan. However, the odds aren’t representative of their chances. Wigan have lost four of their last five at home, and failed to score on three of those occasions. Home and away, they have won once in their last 11 fixtures. Only an inspired 2nd half performance (mainly from James McArthur) rescued a point at the Britannia. Sir Alex Ferguson was impressed with Southampton in midweek, almost implying they were lucky to get all three points. An away win here is certainly not out of the question, in fact, I believe it is more likely than the home win. A draw his also a likely result here, and the skewed odds mean that we can still profit from that.

AZ Alkmaar v Groningen (5:45pm)

Winning 4-1 in their last two league games, including an emphatic home victory against high flyer Vitesse, AZ come in to this game as strong favourites. Groningen have one point from their last 5 games, and have now lost their last 3 on the road. AZ started the season well and then suffered a loss of form that saw them leaking goals one end and struggling to score at the other. However, the winter break appears to have worked wonders as they’ve now scored 16 in their 4 fixtures in 2013, conceding four. Jozy Altidore fared well in midweek amidst racist chanting and with 15 league goals already this season; I have no doubt he will likely notch again today. He is supported by others capable of scoring. Watch out for youngster Adam Maher, at just 19 he has hit some form and may also prove influential.
