Tonight I’m introducing you something new, as well as looking at an NBA game I’m going to take a quiet Thursday to use a pick that I’d usually keep exclusively to my self. Tonight, we’ll also be taking a loot at some NCAAB – or more commonly known as College Basketball.
LA Lakers @ Boston Celtics
This isn’t so much a game for the stat man like myself, this one basically comes down to instinct. The Lakers have been a much improved side lately and they’ve won 5 out of 7. The Celtics have been doing okay and trying to rally without Rajon Rondo, but they know he’ll miss the full season and that’s bound to catch up with them eventually. They travelled to Toronto yesterday and although they pulled out a narrow 4 point win they played a tough game that wasn’t over until the last shot. The Raptors pushed them every bit of the way and I just think tonight is a night where a tired Celtics team on a back to back is going to be looking for some real leadership, that Rondo might usually provide. Paul Pierce had a huge 4th quarter last night for the Celtics, literally single handedly took the win. He’s a great player but it might be a big ask for him to try and be the glue of a tired Celtics team tonight, despite home support. The Lakers are surging towards the playoffs right now and their odds of reaching the playoffs have dropped from a high of 6/1 in to nearly evens and below. Right now this team is playing like a title winning team, and they’re going to come here and compete big time tonight. They FINALLY look half like the team of stars they’re meant to be.
NCAAB: NC State @ Duke
The name of those two teams and the concept of college Basketball means nothing to you, right? I thought so. So I’ll spare you the preview. This one simply comes down to you putting your trust in me – when have I ever steered you wrong? Not too often. I know NCAAB like the NBA but the reason I’ve suddenly taken this bet is because A, it’s a quiet NBA night and B, I just really feel I know more than enough to play a confident pick on NC State in this game. Duke are an 11 point favorite and that’s a big number to me. NC State have already beaten Duke by 8 points this season and they’re in a spot where they’re looking to really bounce back from some recent results. They haven’t covered a -11 spread all season so far and they’re actually 0-4 on this number, and the biggest picture being they haven’t covered a single spread placed a couple of points either side of it. I can see a quite high scoring game and Duke perhaps will show some extra quality there, as they’re also looking to bounce back and claim revenge from the NC State defeat earlier in the season, but I think NC State has the overall squad to match them and compete in this game. Double digit favorites in any US Sport always have a lot of points to cover and should never be bet on lightly.
