Copa Libertedores tips 14/2/13Comments Off

Just the three bets to come this Thursday evening but we will be plunging into the depths of the unknown, well not really I’ll be taking a bet in Argentina as I’m just as capable in all South American leagues but I tend to just use the Brazilian as it offers the most games and I don’t have any language issues.

Gremio vs Huachipato (9:30PM)

Having recently signed Palmeiras forward Hernan Barcos, Gremio probably possess the best strike in the whole of South America. With Vargas and Barcos likely candidates to line up for Gremio tonight they’ll be eager to show what they can do against the Chileans. If Huachipato concede early here then they will be on the end of a hammering as Gremio go in search of those important 3 points to get their campaign off to a flyer. Huachipato will happily come and lose 2-0 as long as they’re not on the end of an embarrassing score line they’ll be happy, I’m not to convinced that’s going to happen.  Huachipito have struggled in their opening 3 league games conceding 5 in the process whilst failing to score. With a very young squad Huachipato will not have the experience required to play infront of a hostile Gremio crowd which is one reason I’m expecting them to cave within the first 20 minutes and then it’s a case of pick a number between 1 and 10 for the final score.

Newell’s old boys vs Olimpia (9:30PM)

This is a first for me on Terry Tips as I’m tipping a game which involves no Brazilian teams but with just as much research put into it, depending on public reaction and obviously how the bet pans out will help me decide if Ill chose other South American teams to tip on in the future. Newell’s didn’t do themselves justice in last years competition going out in the first knock out round but this year they’ll be looking to give the competition a real go. Argentine teams are traditionally superb at home in continental competitions with Newell’s being no different, the fans will be right behind them and I’m expecting them to come out on top against a decent Olimpia side. Olimpia play a very open style of football with their full backs constantly bombing forward  which will leave space for Newell’s to exploit. I can see Newell’s coming out on top here and grabbing themselves a couple of goals in the process.

Palmeiras vs Sporting Cristal (11:59PM)

Palmeiras have said their goodbyes to star striker Hernan Barcos as he headed off to Gremio but there’s more important things a foot and that’s opening their CL campaign with a victory. The bookies have this one priced down as an easy Palmeiras victory and I have to disagree with their thinking, Cristal have won all their previous 3 games without conceding a goal or for that matter giving the opposition any chances at all. We all know Palmeiras are weak at the back but are usually capable of creating a chance or two but with Barcos now gone I can’t see who is going to fill in as their regular goalscorer.  Although Pal have only been impressive in one state championship thus far they still possess a threat to any team on their day but with all the current situations including players swaps with Gremio I can’t see today being one of those days.

Lewis’s Tips:

Gremio vs Huachipato – Gremio to score in both halves (1.91 Paddy Power)

Newell’s old boys vs Olimpia – Newell’s to score over 1.5 goals (1.90 Sporting bet)

Palmeiras vs Sporting Cristal – Sporting Cristal + 1.25 (1.78 Betdaq)
