Back to the state championship now after a disappointing midweek in the opening round of the copa libertedores.

Uniao Barbarense vs Mogi Mirim (7PM)

A very interesting matchup as an over achieving Mogi Mirim travel to Uniao Barbarense who will be eager to get back on track after a poor run of form which sees them winless in 4 games. Mogi Mirim have picked up some fantastic results recently and they’ll fancy themselves to grab a result late on here. In their last 4 games Mogi Mirim have been drawing at half time including a tough away game at Corinthians and I think that will be the same case today. Uniao will be desperate not to concede an early goal in their fragile state so a half time draw is certainly on the cards.

XV de Piracaba vs Guarani (7PM)

Apart from Santos I would have to say that XV have been my favoured side this season just because of their willingness to throw players forward and also their hard work rate between players. Guarani on the other hand are a team in free fall with just 1 win in 7 games which came at home to Sao Caetano who only had 9 men. XV are a steady mid table club but this season they have a real opportunity to push for the play offs but in order to do so they’ll have to beat the likes of Guarani at home. Guarani have lost both of their away games this season and I’m expecting them to make that a third here.

Sao Paulo vs Ituano (9:30PM)

Sao Paulo are really struggling in the Paulista championship and with the added pressure of the copa libertedores they’ll happily just see this game fly by. Ituano have actually been decent in their last 3 games picking up two wins and a draw whilst conceding just three goals. Ituano will go into this game with a very defensive mentality, they’ll be content on soaking up the pressure whilst trying to hit Sao Paulo on the break. Sao Paulo should rest a few key players for this game which is another reason that I’ll be taking under 3 goals.
