Montreal Canadiens @ Boston Bruins – (11:35pm)
The Bruins head into tonight home fixture, not the form they would have hoped for. They’ve won only twice in their last five games, leaking 11 goals in the process. However, their home form is great at the moment winning their last five straight. Furthermore, they have only lost four times at home in their last 15 appearances. The Habs go into this game knowing they have a pretty decent record against the Bruins, and in Boston. The series is currently level for the season, with both sides winning on the road. The Canadiens won the last fixture between the teams 4-3, but I can’t see a repeat happening tonight.
The Bruins are a tough team to beat in Boston. They are tied in the league for the fewest home losses, and with the Habs struggling offensively, now doesn’t seem the best time to be playing Boston, who also have the second best defensive record, conceding only 2.10 goals on average per game. The Bruins have had a couple of nights off, whilst the Canadiens head into their second road trip in as many days. They were shut out by the Penguins last night 1-0, and I can see a similar result occurring tonight.
Phoenix Coyotes @ Minnesota Wild – (1:05am)
On paper, the history suggests the Coyotes should come out on top in this matchup. Phoenix have won the last five of their six meetings in Minnesota. However, recent form shows the complete opposite. The Coyotes have lost their last five straight games, furthermore they have lost their last five on the road too. As well as this, they have only one three games on the road this season. The complete opposite form has occurred for the Wild, winning their last five games they’ve played. Additionally, Minnesota have only lost four games at home all season.
The home side are favourable across the ice tonight, scoring more goals than the Coyotes on average as well as conceding less. Moreover, the Wild have a better power play conversion % at 18.52%, as well as killing off any chances. They concede very little, especially at home, and the Wild have the 2nd best home defence in the league.
