This week see’s the return of the CCL and with both MLS sides having lost their opening legs at home, a Santos vs. Monterrey final looks obviousy again. LA Galaxy definitely have a small chance of turning over Monterrey and until De Nigris’ late interventions would have gone with a lead. As for tonight, Seattle have no chance.
Santos Laguna vs. Seattle Sounders – (1.00am)
Only during 2 of 23 home ties for Santos has there not been a first half goal in the game, and despite their dominance reflected in a 22 wins and 1 loss record, both teams to score has landed in the first half on 10 occasions including the last two times an MLS side has visited Torreon. In the last year, Santos has netted 11 first half goals in their 5 CCL games, and 6 of those came against 3 MLS opposition. Seattle will have the master plan of sitting off and counter attacking but honestly, if you can’t do it at home, what use will it be in Torreon? It saw them receive a 6-1 thrashing last season and although tonight’s score shouldn’t be as steep – I think Seattle will have a job on their hands to keep Santos Laguna and Herculez Gomez to less than 3 goals this evening. Sigi Schmid has made the usual mistake of attempting the mind games with Santos. He’s told them they’re complacent, and that they’re mistaken if they think its job done. Is it job done? 199% yes. However, those comments seemed to annoy Gomez and Caixinha just enough for them to announce their attentions of an early goal or two from their full strength side.
