The Phillies have been downgraded a lot in my rankings. They got absolutely spanked by the Mets, and have lost a fair few games where I thought they would put out a good performance. However, the Braves who are performing very well so early on in the season win by -1.5 runs, to put us into profit for the night.
Atlanta Braves @ Miami Marlins – (00:10am)
The Braves go into this game with the best record in MLB with six wins from seven. They are also on top of my power rankings, and in the top three of many others. They beat the Marlins 2-0 last night in a less than enthralling game, but nonetheless they got the job done. Miami have the lowest record in the MLB so far, winning from from their seven games.
The Braves start Kris Medlan (0-1, 3.60 ERA) who lost his first start this season, after allowing two runs off of six hits in the five innings he pitched. In his last five starts against the Marlins, he has won all five – by a run differential of +16 over these five games. The home team start Wade LeBlanc (0-1, 3.60 ERA) who also lost his first start this year. He allowed three runs off of five hits in the five innings that he pitched. In his only three starts against the Braves, he has only won once.
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Arizona Diamondbacks – (02:40am)
The Pirates picked up their second win of the season in Arizona last night, beating the home side 5-3. The Diamondbacks, who currently hold top position in the NL Western Division, picked up their second loss of the season after winning five of their other games. The Diamondbacks are a much better team than Pittsburgh, and will definitely be in the mix come the end of the season.
The Pirates are currently the lowest scoring team in MLB with a very low 1.89 runs/game. Compared to Arizona who score on average 5.71 runs/game. The Diamondbacks have the highest amount of hits per game in the league, currently at 11. The D’backs start Brandon McCarthy (0-0, 10.80 ERA) on the mound, who got a no decision in his last outing, allowing six runs off of nine hits in only the five innings in which he pitched. James McDonald (0-1, 1.29 ERA) is my favourite pitcher for the Pirates. He only allowed one run off of two hits in his first outing after pitching for seven innings. He has also beaten the D’backs in two of the three games he has started against them.
Houston Astros @ Seattle Mariners – (03:10am)
I hold the Mariners in fairly high-esteem. They are .500 so far for the season, with a 4-4 record. They are at home against a very poor Houston side, who haven’t won since the opening game of the season (the only one we bet against them on..typical!). Seattle won the opening game in this series 3-0 last night, and look to capitalise on the divisions newest franchise.
Erik Bedard (0-0, 0.00 ERA) came in for just over three innings in his only outing this year, allowing just one hit and no runs. He starts on the mound for the Astros tonight. The Mariners start Brandon Maurer (0-1, 9.00 ERA) who lost his first start against division rivals Oakland. He allowed six runs off of eight hits, from the six innings that he pitched from.
