So the Gold Cup doesn’t start until Sunday, with the USA playing on Tuesday. In the early hours of tomorrow, however, the USA will play their warm up game on home soil against Guatemala.
USA vs. Guatemala – (4.00am)
There should be a big crowd in San Diego to wave the US off to their final game. They aren’t actually going anywhere as such, with the Cup being held in the States, but a strong performance against a Guatemalan side they’ve become accustom to beating would really raise the hopes and the support this experimental US team will receive. The last meeting between the two was a 3-1 win for the USA in World Cup Qualifying, but tonight’s side’s look rather different. The likes of Marco Papa and Ruiz are not included in tonight’s squad for Guatemala. Two big players for them that will significantly reduce their goal threat. On top of that, they’ve only scored 3 times in 9 visits to USA anyway, losing 8 and drawing 1 of those 9 visits, failing to score in the 1 single draw (0-0). Whilst we may not be seeing the like sof Bradley and Zusi and Dempsey, the likes of Wondolowski, McInerney and co will be desperate to get themselves a few goals and repeat their MLS form of late. Their should be something of a really comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere for this game tonight, and if all goes to plan the US should put in a strong send off performance.
