Tonight, the slightly out of form Reds meet the Padres, but the numbers say you can expect them the snap their current losing streak
Pitcher A has a 73/20 k/bb ratio on the road with a 3.29 era. Pitcher B has 29 walks in 56 IP and a 5.79 era at home. Pitcher A’s team has 10 more wins than Pitcher B’s team. You’d expect the price to -175 (1.57) or maybe even above -200 (1.50), right? Wrong!
Mat Latos and his Reds are priced at only -151 (1.68) against Edison Volquez and the Padres tonight. Yes, the Reds are struggling with 4 straight losses, but their lineup is way too good to continue this losing streak.
They are second in the NL in runs and Latos is good enough to be the “stopper” of this losing streak.
Elsewhere, a battle between two underrated pitchers who are putting up ace numbers this season, when the Rangers meet the Angels.
CJ Wilson comes in with a 124/52 ratio in 135 ip with only 10 hr’s allowed. His ERA is a stellar 3.18. Facing him is fellow southpaw Derek Holland, who sports a 129/40/9 line with a sparkling 3.06 era.
Both pitchers pitch well at home and away, so there is no splits concern here. The Angels have been slumping all season because of the horribly disappointing seasons put forth by Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton; their .694 OPS against lefties puts them at only 20th in baseball.
Texas has only scored 14 runs in their last 6 games, 8 of which came in an extra inning game against the Indians. Their bats will not get hot against Wilson tonight.
Given the talent that will take to the mound, you’d expect this to be a tight one, with the game line being at an arguably generous 8.5 runs.
And that’s your Tuesday 60 seconds MLB Preview!
