Well, then… Clearly what I meant to write last night, was that I thought the Under 18.5 price was generous, not Under 8.5!
In a result that can only be described as shocking, the Rangers defeated the Angels 14-11 in ten innings. Wilson and Holland, two consistently good starters, simply did not have it.
The other game I previewed was the Reds vs the Padres. Well, I was right about Mat Latos having a very good outing, but the Reds bats could not wake up against Edison Volquez. They have now lost 5 in a row and can officially push the panic button. My New York Mets are only seven behind them in the loss column for the second wild card spot. That’s not good if you’re a Reds fan… at all!
Today there is only one game that catches my eye. As we get to know each other over the next two months of this MLB season, you’re going to learn that I am not a believer in Jeff Locke.
Pirates vs. Cardinals
Jeff Locke has a fantastic 2.15 era, but has only 88 strikeouts in 121 IP with 57 walks. That’s a poor K rate and a poor K/BB ratio. His BABIP is an unsustainable .233. To put that number in perspective, even the great Greg Maddux never topped .244. Locke has been extremely lucky all season and will undoubtedly regress before the season ends.
His opponent tonight is Adam Wainwright, who has a 145/18 K/BB ratio in 161 innings with a very good 2.51 ERA. He is backed up by the Cardinals, who lead the National League in runs and arguably have the deepest lineup in baseball. I predict that Locke begins his regression tonight against this very good Cardinals lineup and Wainwright shuts down the Pirates.
I am not shocked Vegas only has the Cards as a -118 (1.85) favorite because they think Locke is for real. Trust me, folks, he isn’t!|
And that’s your Wednesday 60 Seconds MLB Preview!
