Can youth carry Ajax to UCL success?Comments Off

Ajax, who have been around for over 112 years, has been known to produce some of the best young players in Europe and they are highly sought after

Because of the enormous talent that these players have, Ajax is always a club that is in the hunt to win the Dutch Eredivisie and is always a top team in the Champions League.

The defending Eredivisie champions have won a grand total of 32 total league titles and 18 Dutch Cups. Ajax has also won four Champions League trophies, with the last one coming in 1995, which is almost two decades ago now.

Ajax has been known to produce some of the best young players in Europe including players like Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Thomas Vermaelen, Jan Vertonghen, and the list just keeps going on and on and on.

These youngsters are taught from the get go how to play in their system and the formation and continue to play in it all the way up to the first team. The club also has other clubs set up all around the world to train young players who are not able to move easily to Europe, which is helpful to build the main squad even further if they so choose.

If the Dutch club plans on progressing deep into the latter stages of the Champions League, the forefront of their success will have to come through their very talented Danish duo, if they remain at Ajax, of course.

Both Christian Eriksen, 21 years old, and Viktor Fischer, 19 years old, are very technically gifted and can read the game like no other Danish players that I have seen before. Fischer is without a doubt the more creative of the two. Fischer can control the ball extremely well and is also a tireless worker on the pitch and on the training ground.

Siem de Jong and Kolbeinn Sigporsson, Icelandic international, are two of the youngest strikers starting in the highest league in the Netherlands. Siem is a very potent forward who is always playing off the shoulders of the oppositions defenders and always has a knack of being in the right spot at the absolute right time. Sigporsson is a very promising striker who still has a lot to prove in this side before he can become a regular fixture up front.

The defense is led by Belgium international Toby Alderwield, who is also just only 24 years old. Alderwield is certainly not the tallest center back in the world, he is only listed at 6 feet 1 inches tall, but he makes up for it with his strength and his ability to get up in the air and win areal duals against the opposing forwards. The Belgian is also an asset on set pieces with his physical tendencies and who can also use his head well, although he does not score a whole lot of goals.

With this said, it is also the luck of the draw regarding which group they get into which will also help them progress farther into the competition.

Ajax has won the Champions League on many occasions although they have not won it in recent times. They will be looking to return to European glory in the coming years and it will come sooner rather than later.

Until they do, Ajax will continue to find and produce talented young players from across Europe and the world and breed them to be able to play in Europe’s elite leagues.
