Today is pretty much as busy as yesterday, a lot of football about, but only three bets that really stand out to me…

Vitesse v FC Twente (1:30pm)

Vitesse haven’t impressed me yet this season, they struggled in Europe against a side that Swansea have thumped 5-1, and in the league are yet to show signs that they can compete without Wilfried Bony. Twente on the other hand have impressed, smashing 10 goals past Feyenoord and Utrecht in their last two games. They are tearing defences apart, creating bags of chances – many of which have been clear cut too. Castaignos has started the season well with 3 goals in 3 games, and Tadic has 3 goals (all penalties). They are really causing problems and confidence will be sky high after recent results. Feyenoord, Utrecht and Vitesse is a tough run, but I fully expect them to get through it with 9 points

Utrecht v AZ Alkmaar (3:30pm)

After surprising starts to the season for both of theses sides, they face each other in a fixture that both will be desperate to win. Utrecht have started poorly, and having shipped 6 at Twente last weekend have a real cause for concern defensively. AZ have have won their last 3 competitive fixtures, and despite no clean sheet they’ve managed to net 10 in 4 games, 2 or more in each. Both qualified for Europa League qualifiers, but Utrecht went out early, and AZ come in to this game off an impressive 3-1 win in Greece. An AZ win today puts them above Ajax who they beat a few weeks ago, and keeps them in contention with the top sides. Utrecht will be looking to improve on their solitary point earned so far (against newly promoted Go Ahead Eagles). AZ will likely start wioth the same side that played so well in midweek, although Martens might be able to sneak his way in to the side. The away side are strong going forward and travel to a side low in confidence both defensively and in front of goal. You could consider the goals market here, but you’re better off backing the away side, as they are most likely to grab the goals here today.

FC Augsburg v VfB Stuttgart (4:30pm)

I mentioned yesterday that Stuttgart are one of the weaker sides in the Bundesliga this season. Today I will add that Augsburg are also in that group, and that this game will be hugely important for both sides. Despite being at home, I am still surprised to see Augsburg come in to this game as favourites. They’ve not scored in the two opening games, and although this is a small sample size it does highlight something that I think will be present throughout the season – a struggle to score. Stuttgart shouldn’t have that problem; their problem lies at the other end. They leak goals a little too easily. They are strong enough going forward to cause the weaker sides in the league problems, and Ibisevic is a striker that most sides in the league would like to have amongst their ranks. The value is on the away side. Slight value on the draw and away side, which means our Asian Handicap comes in to play yet again…
