Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas
Both sides were on the end of surprising results last time out, with DC United shocking RSL 1-0 in the Cup, whilst Dallas just completely fell apart against a stuttering Columbus side at home. I’m going to bet on Real Salt Lake just one more time. I’ve backed them the last two home games and lost. My reason for betting on RSL in the second of those games was the fact they’ve only lost back to back games at home once since 2007. The last time Real Salt Lake lost to MLS opposition in three straight home games was just once backing in 2005. You may say well what relevance is that? Yet if it was Manchester United, you’d use a stat like that. Well, RSL have been the Manchester United of the MLS at home over the years. The consistency of results is remarkable yet almost demanded, and I just think this Dallas team (as demonstrated last week) play far too open and without organisation right now to leave with a win. There’s a big difference between the quality of the teams at the moment and I just see RSL bouncing back, because it’s what they always do.
NY Red Bulls vs. New England Revs
This is something of a local affair when the Revs visit the Red Bulls, and the home side will very much hope for a repeat of the 4-1 score line here earlier this season. Tim Cahill played out of his skin in leading NYRB to a 1-1 draw in Seattle last week, and that was a superb result given Henry chose not to play on the artificial surface and Jamison Olave also stayed at home. Both will be back in the line-up tonight for a full strength Red Bulls side. Their recent defensive performances from the Red Bulls have been superb and it should limit a Revs side that will be slightly reserved away from home. New York have allowed just 3 goals in the past 5 games, and that’s relevant to the stat that for whatever reason, home sides are just hard to beat in this fixture. New York has never won in New England and the home side haven’t lost this fixture in 17 respective meetings. This is another game with a clear difference in quality between the sides. The Red Bulls have scored 28 goals in their last 13 home games and I’m not sure a New England side can live with that.
